The wonderful Berkeley Square Poetry Revue is back, and with an exciting line-up.

With live music and poetry for some fantastic talent from the South West, it’s shaping up to be a must-see event on the Music and Poetry calendar. Each performer will provide 5 minutes of their latest work. See below for a short intro to each performer, with more to be announced soon!

Drinks are available to purchase before the show, two doors up at the Square Club (via the Hotel entrance)

A bit about the performers:

Music: Avellana

Sonorous jazz for saxophone and guitar from Simon Greening and Paul Mahon with percussionist Glyn Owen. Expect sensitive pieces on the borders of contemporary classical and jazz

Guitarist Paul Mahon has found great joy and satisfaction in making music and sharing it with people all over the world. Paul is well known for his guitar session work and performing in Europe whilst based in Dublin.  His passion for Jazz flourished through performing with the Berkshire Youth Jazz Orchestra from 16 years of age through to his late twenties. He has played with the best UK jazz musicians such as Tina May, Peter King, John Parricelli and Jamie Cullum.

Saxophonist Simon Greening is a familiar figure in the Bristol jazz scene, playing in several bands – including founding jazz quartets Green in Blue and Avellana – arranging workshops and running the East Bristol Jazz Club jam. Passionate about music in all forms and with no formal training Simon took up the saxophone as an adult and never stopped playing.

Glyn Owen studied orchestral percussion in Secondary School and was a Member of Avon Schools Symphonic Wind band.  He has spent many years perfecting the art of listening to help perform with others and , as a newcomer to Jazz, brings a sense of innocence and excitement to the trio

Poet: Agata Palmer 

Agata is a bilingual Polish-British poet based in Bristol. Her pamphlet From the Land of Marmite with Love was published by Exiled Writers Ink in 2021. Her work is in Weather Indoors anthology published by Tangent Books 2022. Agata’s poems have been published online and in magazines internationally.

Poet: Deborah Harvey

Deborah lives in her native city of Bristol, and is co-director of The Leaping Word poetry consultancy, which provides writing and editorial advice, and counselling support for writers exploring personal material in their work. Her poems have been widely published in journals and anthologies, broadcast on Radio 4’s Poetry Please, and awarded several prizes. Her most recent poetry collection, Learning Finity, was published in March 2022 by Indigo Dreams, who also published her previous four collections and her historical novel, Dart.
