Annie Meier is a Corsham-based artist, who is passionate about colour and its ability to have a profound effect on daily emotional wellbeing. In addition to being an artist, Meier is also a garden designer, and the influence of this certainly comes across in her paintings.  Within her work, Meier harnesses the therapeutic power of colour, with an aim to invigorate and uplift those engaging with her work.

As an inquisitive hunter-gatherer and explorer, with a thirst for discovery, Meier quenches her enthusiasm for exploration during winter months by immersing herself in landscape painting. Meier tries to bring a sense of ‘joyful energy, lush tropical leaves, sunshine and vibrancy’ into each of the colourful paintings she creates.

Through her work, Meier aims to transform the home environment, to make it a happier and more exciting place to live. Meiers paintings draw inspiration from her South West surroundings, such as historic Cornish cottages and the rolling hills of Sussex ad Wiltshire. Though be prepared to be transported further afield, to distant lands where sunlight is eternal, such as Morocco, St.Lucia, Mallorca and Greece.

Working both in acrylic and watercolour, Meier works in an energetically playful way. Meier builds layers of colour, line and pattern, and will bring in free-gestural mark-making and intuitive paint colours to describe the quality of the landscape and sense of place. Whilst painting, Meier often immerses herself in up-beat music whilst she goes about ‘infusing each canvas with joyful energy, lush tropical leaves, radiant sunshine, and vibrancy.’

Each artist has different motivations behind their creativity, however for Meier, she has had an intrinsic need to paint. Meier uses the process of painting to enter a very immersive and mindful free-flowing state that helps to soothe her frequently frenetic mind. Whilst embarking on travels, Meier will frequently forgo packing essentials in favour of critical art supplies.
