We are delighted to host our second ever ‘Summer Sculpture Show’ out on the Square Terrace to showcase new works by Karen Edwards. To celebrate this (hopefully) sunny occasion we are inviting you to a free Preview to see Karen’s ceramic works over a few drinks and canapés.

Our secluded terrace is Bristol’s best kept secret and is the perfect location to discover these outdoor works, that are all for sale. Drop in anytime on Wednesday 6 July, 6 – 8pm to have a look and soak up the al fresco atmosphere.

Karen has been a full-time potter since 2005 and her work combines interests in plants, landscape and clay. The artist aims to make pieces that harmonise with outdoor surroundings – providing a visual focus throughout the year. Sizes range from tiny pebbles (8cm long) to sculptural forms (60cm high or larger).

Karen works by handbuilding using: coiling, slab work, pinching and press-moulding techniques (or a combination) to produce individual designs. Surfaces are polished, impressed, carved, scraped or inlaid to give interesting texture combinations. Colour is applied after the first firing, usually as a metal oxide wash with porcelain slip highlights, but coloured slips, underglazes or glazes are used on some pieces. The high temperature of the second firing vitrifies the clay, so that sculptures or planters can be left outside all year.
